MAN OF THE CLIFF!!! Best event in the mountains, hands down. Have you ever wanted to be a drunken lumberjack for a day or two? It’s a pretty common dream. I share it with you. However, this year I had a plaid laden epiphany… Just like my academic experience, if I would apply a modicum of effort I could be the Valedictorian of MOTC next year. Too bad hindsight is 20/20 and my GPA doesn’t get a do-over. But Man of the Cliff is annual, guys! Mark my words. I shall conquer this event in 2014!
Let me break down this thang for you:
- Started in 2009 by my favorite mountain people, Adam and Amanda Williams.
- Fund raiser for First Decents
- Held in shamazing Red Cliff, CO
- Sponsored by Bonfire Brewing and Weston Snowboards (among others)
- Events include: Keg Toss, Axe Throw, Archery, Speed Chop, Caber Toss, Spear Throwing, sawing with that big ol’ long saw thing… and probably a few other events.
- Lumberjack attire required unless you are fine with having your ass handed to you by the “hilarious” Emcee crew.
- Plenty-o good eats, flowing libations, ridiculous mountain vistas, beautiful weather, and enough people-watching to fill your quota for the year.
Pardon me. My senses have come back. I need to set the bar lower as far as my goals for next year go. Have you seen the dudes that compete in this thing? Most of them barely pass as humans. This year I definitely saw a Yeti do a one-handed keg toss and clear the bar. So… My more realistic goal for MOTC2014 is to beat all the chicks. Except that one that chews tobacco. I do not have a death wish.
